Tragic News on UPS Accident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The tally of victims from the transport jet which caught fire and went down has now reached 13, per recent statements.

Official's Remarks

Traveling to the Workers’ memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the plane incident,” expressed the city mayor in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the relatives, associates and colleagues of all who were killed in this week’s calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Victims Identified

An announcement from the company named the pilots on board the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to each staff member who has been affected and everyone in our community region – helping you and guaranteeing you receive the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s statement read.

Probe Details

Federal investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an motor detached shortly after liftoff from the aviation hub, causing the aircraft to fall and burst into a fireball.

The NTSB announced it is investigating the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for maintenance several weeks ahead of the crash.

Aircraft information indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this plane was located in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on later, not giving a specific period. “We will examine each aspect of repairs that was done, including the San Antonio period, all the way to the time of the flight.”

Findings of Critical Items

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were found, and the engine was located on the airfield.

The units – called flight recorders – were constructed to endure crash impacts and extreme fire from infernos, and they seemed to be in one piece when located among the remains. Authorities plan on examining information from the recorders.

Aircraft’s concluding data recordings displayed an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of that speed before the crash.

Service Record

According to Federal Aviation Administration documents from last month, a fissure on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank demanded maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which indicated it provides aircraft servicing for the carrier’s MD-11 and runs a maintenance center in Texas, chose not to provide remarks, but stated it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities reached out it.

Operations Resume

In the meantime, UPS Worldport services resumed last night with its overnight or evening procedure, spokesperson the company official stated. All three runways at the airport were also reopened.

The distribution hub in this location is the company’s biggest. The center hires in excess of a large number of workers in the area, handles 300 flights per day and sorts over four hundred thousand items per hour.

Public Reaction

A gathering was held on the evening of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which supports employees at the Louisville airport, the company’s largest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports UPS workers, started the vigil with a quiet tribute at that time, the estimated time of the crash before.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the mayor told the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
